Walter (Waldo) Marion Smith, 81, of Fordyce passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. He
was the first born son of Cora Elsie Oliver Smith and Walter Hughie Smith born on April 2, 1942.
He married the love of his life, Vickey Fay (Raney) Smith on June 6, 1969. He was very proud of his time of military service in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed telling stories of the friends and adventures they shared. Walter’s life work was as a truck driver where he was affectionately known as Waldo to his driver buddies and was very proud of the legacy he had created. While always a man who could endure pain and hardship with grace, he always surrounded his family with love and he had a large family who loved him. Besides his family, he loved the Lord and was always ready to listen to a sermon or talk about the Bible with anyone who would listen.
He is preceded in death by his two parents, Cora Elsie Smith and Walter Hughie Smith, and
one infant sister, Illa Drusilla Smith. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Vickey Smith, of Ivan, two children, Tonya Carlson and her husband Tracy, of Ivan, and Marion Smith and his
wife Tonya, of Fordyce, his six grandchildren, Haley Smith and husband Luke, of Fordyce,
Gunner Carlson and his wife Jayda, of Kingsland, Julie Huntley and her husband Dakota, of
Kingsland, Briar Carlson of Ivan, Carlee Smith, of Fordyce, and Ryan Smith, of Fordyce, and
his six great-grandchildren, Gideon Smith, of Fordyce, Everly Carlson, of Kingsland, Beau
Carlson, of Kingsland, Dixie Huntley, of Kingsland, Faith Huntley, of Kingsland and Drake
Huntley, of Kingsland. He is also leaving behind six siblings, Ida Maddox, of White Hall, Bertie
“Fran” Wilkes and her husband Hal, of Charlotte, David Smith and his wife Barbara, of Fordyce,
Cora Ruth Smith, of Fordyce, Ruby Smith. of Fordyce and Charley Smith and his wife Alice, of
Strong, not to mention the vast number of nieces, nephews and cousins left behind.
Visitation will be Monday 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev.
