Victor Leon Oliger, 89, of Kingsland died Tuesday July 31, 2012 at St. John's Place in Fordyce. Born July 30, 1923 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Lee and Annie Orton Oliger. Mr. Oliger was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a gunner in World War II. He received numerous medals for his service, including the Purple Heart, World War II American Theater Campaign Medal, three Bronze Stars, Fame Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the American Legion where he was Post Commander in Fordyce, district 78, and District Commander of Arkansas, District 9. Mr. Oliger taught at several schools throughout South Arkansas about the etiquette of the American Flag. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Oliger. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Oliger of Kingsland; sons Michael Crane and wife, Martha of Texarkana, AR, Paul Crane and wife Betty of Kingsland, Don Oliger of Wright; daughters Vicki Oliger of Kingsland, Christina Lee and husband Billy of Fordyce; brothers, Charles Oliger and wife Bobbie of England, Louis Oliger and wife Geneva of Lanty, Don Oliger of Virginia, Herman Oliger and wife Sandra of Cabot, sisters Dorothy Burton and husband J.D. of White Hall, Sally Brown of Perryville, Ann Edwards and husband Douglas of White Hall; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Buddy Burton officiating.
