Verla Mae Golden, age 94 of Kingsland, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Dallas County Medical Center. She was born February 21, 1930 in Traskwood, Arkansas.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Golden; parents, Albert and Leaner Beck McBurnett; one son, J.E. Golden Maxson; thirteen brothers and sisters (seven who died in early years), six who her mother raised to adulthood. J.C. (Janice) McBurnett, Mattie (Bob) Crites, Lenson (Juanita) McBurnett, Jack (Dorothy) McBurnett, Virgie (Junior) Mayberry and Bonnie (Tony) Robinson; granddaughter, Kimberly Stewart; and a son-in-law, Henry Cline.
She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Golden, who was her caregiver too, Rose Mary Cline, Nona (Orlan) Davis all of Kingsland; grandsons, Phillip (Melissa) Golden, Odgen Utah, Russell (Tabatha) Cline, Ricky Stewart, Joshua Stewart of Kingsland; granddaughters, Roxanne (Tim) Dunn, Summer (Chris) Smith; great grandchildren, BriAnne, Brooks, Denver (Phil), Emily, Adriana, Akashia (Josh), Keifer and Zachary (Russell), Lilly Mae, Payton, and Christian.
We will remember our sweet and dear mother and grandmother with joy as we give God thanks for the 94 years that God has blessed her to share her love, life, kindness, sense of humor and that little streak of “I’m the boss”. She was quick to respond with something that usually made us laugh or silence followed.
She never met a stranger, loved children, (especially babies) and never missed an opportunity to show that love.
Visitation will be Thursday 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. The service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Shane Matthews officiating. Burial at Watson Gum Grove Cemetery near Kingsland. To sign the online register visit
