Vergil Chester Cox, 75, of Crossett died Monday, September 15, 2008 at Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. He was born May 17, 1933 in Mangham, LA. He was a retired press operator for Bemis Company and he was also a member of First Assembly of God in Crossett. He is survived by his wife, Melba Hornaday Cox of Crossett; one son, Michael Cox of Fountain Hill; one daughter, Connie Summerland of Crossett; five brothers, Vernon Cox, Velton Cox, Victor Cox, Verlon Cox and Venton Cox; six sisters, Virginia Watt, Velma Cox, Vera Cox, Vinnie Cox, Vada Cox and Vickie Cox; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Viola Nugent Cox; one brother, one sister; and grandson, Grant Summerland. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Thursday at McCoy Cemetery near New Edinburg with Rev. Norman Riordan officiating. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce.
