Tressie Raye Jones

Tressie Raye Jones, born November 10, 1936, in Thornton Arkansas to Otis W. Steelman and Dahlia Beatrice Benson passed peacefully away on June 5, 2025, in Manteca California. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 55 years, Benny Ray Jones of Thornton Arkansas, and her grandson Daniel Benjamin Janisch. Tressie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Robin Jones of Manteca, California, Shawn Janisch (Michael Janisch) of Henderson, Nevada, grandsons Benjamin Chrimes, Todd Janisch (Rachel Kung Janisch), one great grand-daughter on the way and her sister Judy Inman of Red Bluff, California. Tressie was an avid reader and her passions included interior design, antique shopping, live theater productions, and watching the Golden State Warriors play basketball. Tressie was the first person in her family to get a college degree. She taught high school English and Drama. She was also an advocate for at risk students and developed a program to address their needs. Tressie was a trailblazer in her time. She pursued a higher education at a time in our history when opportunities were afforded to women. She was an inspirational role model to her daughters and students. Tressie will be laid to rest next to her loving husband at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Arkansas. Services will be private.
