Sue Price, age 76, of Fordyce, died Saturday January 16, 2010 with her daughters by her side. She was born September 20, 1933 in Forrester, AR.
Mrs. Price was a retired Fordyce Elementary School teacher, where she taught for 28 years. She taught two generations of Fordyce students English and reading, and is fondly remembered for her lively interpretation of childrens' books. As the mother of five daughters, she managed to remain calm and dignified throughout even her children's teenage years. She raised her girls without ever raising her voice. Unfortunately, none of her girls lived up to her fine example. They took after their father. Her house was always full of company and chaos, but she didn't mind it as long as the noise was happy noise. Mother was quiet, but witty, and had a love of words, always reading and working crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jack Price, her parents, sister and brother. She is survived by her daughters: Susan Houston of Arkadelphia, Sharon Hawkins (Greg) of New York, Brenda Turpen (Kent) of Fordyce, Pam Raney of Cabot, Kim Rackelin (Tony) of Texas. She was "Munna" to her 14 grandchildren: Laura Houston, Dan Houston, Carsey Hawkins, Campbell Hawkins, McCall Hawkins, Ellen Wehrman (Andy), Jack Turpen (Nichole), Anna Turpen, Scott Turpen, Sam Raney, Emily Raney, Winston Raney, Kyle Rackelin, and Eric Rackelin.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
