Ruth Jacinta Davis Cathey, age 83, of Thornton, Arkansas went to heaven on Monday, December 31, 2018.
Ruth was born on February 7, 1935 in Sibley, Louisiana to Lester and Ola Pearce Davis. She was the youngest of six children, Henry, Vera Sue, Levi, Billy, and Dorothy.
She graduated from Magnolia High School in Magnolia, Arkansas and later from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She had the opportunity to visit Denmark as part of the International Exchange Program.
On December 21, 1958 she married Thomas Roland Cathey, Sr. and moved to Thornton, Arkansas. In addition to teaching school, first in Thornton and later in Kingsland, Ruth was a Sunday school teacher and an entrepreneur. Together with her husband they built Cathey Saw Shop, a laundromat, and a floral shop.
Ruth was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her brother Billy Davis and his wife Vivian of Humble, TX; her daughter Lakita Hornaday and her husband Wayne of Thornton; son Tom Cathey and his wife Angela of Thornton; granddaughter Britney Boroughs and her husband Bryce of Thornton; granddaughter BreAnna Ryder and her husband C.B. of Thornton; great grandchildren Alyvia, Levi, Thomas, Jase, and Ruthie all of Thornton; and her beloved dog Rambo.
Ruth’s life will be celebrated on Friday, January 4, 2019 in Fordyce, Arkansas at Benton Funeral Home. Visitation is at 1:00 pm and the funeral service is at 2:00 pm with Elder Paul Cayce and Rev.
