Relda Strickland Boyd, 86, of Willis, Texas and Camden, Arkansas died Thursday August 28, 2008.
She was born November 11, 1921 in Hampton, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Maude Lindsey and William H. Strickland; sisters Ollie Mae Childers and husband Melvin of Hampton, Arkansas, Lydia Gray and husband William of Houston, Texas; brothers Cleveland Strickland, Doyle Strickland and wife Mallo, Homer Strickland and wife Bessie, and Leroy Strickland, all of Hampton, Arkansas; sons-in-law Louis Diggs Jr. of Willis, Texas and Lee Tapper of Camden, Arkansas. Relda was widowed three times, surviving husbands Thomas Martin, Nathan Ouzts and Henry Boyd.
Relda is survived by her loving children Beverly Tapper of Camden, Arkansas, Judy Diggs of Willis, Texas and Wayne Martin and wife Tina of Conroe, Texas, Step-Daughter Kathryn Findley and husband Walter of Grand Cane, Louisiana and Step-Son Taylor Ouzts and wife Pam of Beaumont, Texas. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law Jessie Ruth Strickland of Hampton, AR. She was Grandmother to Dennis Diggs and Darrell Diggs and wife Lisa of Willis, Texas; Ashley Freeman and husband Gayland of Clear Lake Texas, Lisa Martin and partner Rey Flores of Houston, Texas and Maranda Clark of Conroe, Texas, Marisa Garrett and husband Brandon and Jillane Brian of Camden, Arkansas and Laura Tapper of Dallas, Texas, Maranda Coe, Gary Wayne Nelson, and Christy Hines. She enjoyed Great Grandchildren, Michelle Webber and partner James Taylor, Daniel Diggs and partner Jessica Appleby, Jessica Diggs, D.J. Diggs, Dena Diggs, Michael Quiroz, Juliana Clark, Peyton Clark, Jonathan Martin, Ashton Loving, Jaylee Freeman, Kaitlyn Garrett, Preston Garrett and Morgan Brian, Jayden Nelson, Lexy Mae Edmondson, Joshua Coe, Gayland Freeman, Jr., Hunter and Paige Hines.
Relda was also great-great-grandmother to Trinten and Jared Webber, Dane and Merceded Taylor, Ava Appleby and Darin Diggs (due November 2008) and countless nieces, nephews and their children.
Relda began her working career as a reporter for the Arkansas Plain Dealer newspaper in Hampton followed by assembly work for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, OH; and the Pentagon in Washington D.C. In her later years she became a beautician in Shreveport, La. She was versatile in crafts and quilting, and was known to fish in rain or snow.
Services will be led by Nephew Rev. Loren Strickland of West Memphis, Arkansas on Monday September 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel in Fordyce, Arkansas.
