Murle Marie Pennington

December 18, 1932 — July 17, 2025

Murle Marie Pennington, age 92 of Monticello passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17th, 2025, at Dalton’s Place of Fordyce. She was born on December 18th, 1932, in Montgomery, Alabama to the late Thomas and Nellie Murrah. She was the beloved wife of 38 years to the late Vergil Pennington.
She began her journey as a homemaker, pouring her heart into raising her children, and later worked in the cafeteria at Monticello School District. Murle dedicated over 8,000 volunteer hours as a proud “Pink Lady” with the Drew Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and gave countless more hours through her service at the VFW Hut in Monticello. She was an active and faithful member of Rose Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, always ready to lend a hand in the kitchen or organize a meal. Murle never shied away from speaking her mind and had a knack for taking charge, a deep love for her family, and a strong faith in the Lord.
Survivors include her children, Connie Wiscaver of Little Rock, Vicki Ross and husband Clinton of Monticello, Venessa Adair and husband Kenneth of Monticello, Reathel Privett and husband Phillip of Monticello, William Pennington and wife Stacy of Monticello, Jason Pennington and wife Brenda of Hermitage; sibling James Murrah and wife Mary of Okanogan, WA; 19 grandchildren and their spouses, 41 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren whom all lovingly knew her as Mamaw Penny. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, caretakers and friends she loved dearly.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Stoney Point Cemetery near Fordyce with Rev. Jim Woodell officiating.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Dalton’s Place of Fordyce for the exceptional love and care they provided to our mother and to Hospice Home Care for their care in her final days. We are forever grateful for the love and compassion shown to her.
