Mae Kathryn Russell Burford, 87, passed away on January 21, 2015. She was born on November 9, 1927, in Cleveland County to Stell and Vera Mitchell Russell. Kathryn was a life-long member of the Smith Chapel Church of God. Active in all church activities until her health hindered her, she loved her church and her church family.
Kathryn and Horace Richard Burford, Jr. were married on June 25, 1946 by her maternal grandfather, Brother A. C. Mitchell. They celebrated their 69th anniversary this past year. Kathryn had many hobbies and interests which included sewing and other crafts, fishing, and reading. A special delight for her was their trips to Branson, Missouri whenever they could go.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stell and Vera Russell. She is survived by her husband, Horace, and her children John Russell Burford (Mary) of New Edinburg, and daughter Kay Lynn Burford Earnest (Reggie) of Fordyce; grandchildren Jamon Burford (Jill) of Springfield, Missouri, Jeremy Burford (Cortney) of Alexandria, Louisiana, Casey and Megan Earnest of Fordyce; and great grandchildren Kayla, Allie, Hayden, Gavin, and Brynn Burford.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, January 22, from 6-8 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Services will be held at Benton Funeral Home on Friday at 2 p.m. with Brother Shane Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Smith-Morgan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Smith Chapel Church of God. Pallbearers are Keith Cheney, Jim Culp, Mark Matthews, Paul McKnight, Bill McKnight, and Tim Reaves. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. To sign the online visit www.bentonfuneralhome.net .
