Lloyd McAteer, age 88 of Fordyce, passed away October 6th, 2008 at St. John's Place in Fordyce. Born March 30, 1920 in Chidester, AR, Lloyd was the youngest of four children. He was preceded in death by his wife Captolia of Bearden, his parents, Charlie and Missie Holliman-McAteer, brother Lee, sisters Lottie Phillips and Lydia Fitzhugh.
He is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law Cherie and Marvin O'Mary, Fordyce, Mary and Carl Helberg, Thornton, Judy and Russell Bever, Pine Bluff, and grandchildren; Scott (Michelle) O'Mary, Chester Springs, PA, Tina (Steve) Pennington, Bryant, AR, and Marsha (Bryan) Waddill, Arlington, TN, and great grandchildren; Drew, Seth, and Sean Pennington of Bryant, Catherine, Madeline, and Matthew O'Mary, Chester Springs, PA.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bearden. Lloyd worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Post #232 and a life long sports fan. He played football for the Camden Panthers.
The family will be receiving friends Tuesday October 7th from 6 PM until 8 PM at the Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. A graveside service will be held at Calaway Cemetery, Thornton, Wednesday October 8th at 2 PM under the direction of Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
