Lee Delbert "Joe" Raney, born December 20, 1929, departed this life November 12, 2013 to go to his eternal home.
He was born 7 miles north of Fordyce at Ivan, Arkansas. He and his wife raised their three sons there. The "Old Raney Hill" was home to him, his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Maude Raney; five brothers, Montez, Medford, Garland, Rex and Rudolph; two sisters, Ophelia Stewart and Tressie Ault; one son, Eddie Raney; one grandson, Shawn Raney, and one great grandson, Andrew Raney.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Rogers Raney; two sons, Kenneth and Dennis Raney both of Fordyce; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Joseph, Sam, Daniel and wife Kaylee, Winston, Emily and Allison Raney; and two great grandchildren, Kristopher and Hannah Raney.
Mr. Raney was a retired forester. He worked and enjoyed his entire life in the local timberlands.
Mr. Raney was a member of Zion Baptist Church for fifty plus years; serving as Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a friend to everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
