Julie Ann Dabney Guthrie, 66, of Kingsland, AR, formerly of Freeport, Texas, passed away in her home Monday, October 12, 2020, of natural causes. She was born April 25, 1954, in Houston, Texas, to the late George and Ann Burks Dabney of Freeport, Texas. Ron Guthrie, her husband, of Freeport also predeceased her.
After graduation from high school in Houston, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. Then she attended St. Jacinto Nursing School in Houston, where she earned her license as a registered nurse and practiced in Houston and Corpus Christi until she took early retirement for health reasons in 2011.
Julie is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Geer (Bobby) and Bobby, Jr., her grandson, of Rockport, Texas. Also surviving her are a brother, George Evan Dabney, Jr., (Susan) of Houston, Texas; an aunt Rita Burks Holder of Kingsland; an uncle, Joe E. Burks (Glenetta) of Warren; and many Burks, Dabney, and Grice cousins. A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020, at 11:00 a. m. at Graves Cemetery in the Mt. Elba Community near New Edinburg. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Hebron Methodist Church near New Edinburg. Face masks and social distancing requirements will be observed. Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, AR, is in charge of services.
