John E. Lockwood

John E. Lockwood, 87 of Fordyce, left his earthly home on July 25, 2024 and joined the saints in heaven at 2:45 P.M. at Jefferson Memorial County Hospital in Pine Bluff, with his wife, daughter and pastor by his side. He was born January 17, 1937 in his Grandparents’ home in Fordyce, Arkansas. His parents were Paul and Mary Eugenia (Holmes) Blackwell, who have preceded him in death. John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Twila Keith Lockwood, daughter Paula Lockwood Goeking and granddaughter Donna Elise Goeking, both of Blue Springs, Missouri. He was a member of the Fordyce Methodist Church, Fordyce, Arkansas.

John retired from the Kansas City Southern Railroad after 30 years. Most folks knew him as “Arky the Clown” who performed for many birthday celebrations and always participated in the Fordyce on the Cotton Belt Festivities, for over 40 years, until his health no longer allowed him to do so.

John’s relationship with God grew and developed even closer and deeper, during his retirement years. He loved serving his church, being the hands and feet of Jesus whenever he could. John was an active member of his beloved church until this past year, when he suffered from numerous health issues. He loved attending the men’s monthly breakfast at Red’s Restaurant, always bringing his beloved Twila home biscuits and gravy, when his health allowed. He led the weekly prayer team, was Sunday School Superintendent, usher, sang in the choir, served on the church council and lit the altar candles each week, until life threw him a curve ball.

He loved and adored his precious Twila, daughter and granddaughter. He loved people and peopled loved “Mr. John.” He will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Fordyce Methodist Church Music/Choir Ministry, Fordyce Methodist Church, PO Box 1003, Fordyce, AR 71742. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. A private burial will be held later. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
