James Huel Womack was born on February 24, 1944, and went home to be with Jesus on June 13, 2023.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Huel and Dessie Womack and his brothers-in-law, John Smith, John Scott, and Tom Scott.
James is survived by his wife Lena, his son Scott and daughter-in-law Kim, his grandsons Ryan and Garrett Womack, his three sisters Hilda Smith, Eleanor Watkins and husband Bobby, Lucy Hollon and husband Don, his sisters-in-law, Sharon Scott and Denise Scott, his Aunt Mary Overton, and numerous nieces, nephews, kin, and friends.
James retired after many years working for Entergy. James had many loves in his life. He loved hunting, especially turkey hunting, and he was a charter member of the Wave Hunt Club where he made many friendships that lasted his entire life.
James was a faithful member of the Thornton United Methodist Church and loved his church family. James loved his civic duties. He was a long-time member of the Thornton Volunteer Fire Department and was once a Thornton City Council Member. He was currently a member of Thornton Step-By-Step, Inc., and he was a Shriner.
James loved his farm, his dogs, his cows, and his hay. James’ family was the 2015 Dallas County Farm Family of the Year.
James loved to work, to visit, to talk, to drink coffee, to dance, to tell jokes, to listen to jokes, and to laugh until he cried.
Most of all James loved people. He dearly loved his wife Lena, his son Scott and his daughter-in-law Kim, his grandsons Ryan and Garrett, his sisters, brothers-in-law, his sisters-in-law, his other family members, and his many, many friends.
Visitation will be held at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce Thursday night June 15th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm at the Thornton United Methodist Church on Friday June 16th with Bro. Ron Grigsby and Bro. Phillip Salmon officiating. Burial will follow at Temperance Hill Cemetery near Fordyce.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Brandon, Wayne Williams, and Charlie Erwin.
Pallbearers will be Ryan and Garrett Womack, Dobie Simon, Mac Wylie, and Thornton and Travis Tweety.
