James P. Winter, 71, of Thornton, formerly of Lake County, passed away April 12, 2021. James was born in Evanston, IL and had a passion for cars and racing at an early age. He started in the auto business at age 17 and was a pit crew member on the Nascar racing circuit. He loved rooting for the Chicago Bears, being outdoors and watching Nascar races. Jim was a selfless hard worker who always put his family first, he would move mountains to make his family happy. He was so happy to play with his grandsons in the days leading up to his death including the first meeting of his newest grandson, Zack.
Jim is survived by his dear wife Linda of 41 years, his loving children Misty, T.J. (Marissa), his cherished grandchildren Luke and Zack; and his beloved siblings Pam (the late Wally) Aho, Betty, David (Patricia), Laurel (Bob) Mierke; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his daughter April and his sister Marcia.
A visitation for Jim will be from 4:00 – 8:00pm on Friday April 16th at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Pl, Libertyville, IL. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Clemons Cemetery near Thornton, Arkansas. Memorials made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 would be greatly appreciated. Local arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce, AR.
