James “Jim” Elwood Sindle passed away peacefully on Friday, September 10 at the age of 94 in Columbus, GA with his loving daughter, Lisa, by his side. James joined his wife, Ilene M. Sindle, in heaven.
Born June 11, 1927 in Tinsman, Arkansas, Jim was the son of William and Gladys Sindle. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and subsequently in the US Navy. Jim proudly served his country during World War II (Army) and the Korean War (Navy). After his enlistment, he embarked on a career in infrastructure development. One of the most notable projects he worked on was the Seven Mile Bridge. In his retirement, Jim developed a love of reading, with a particular fondness for Westerns.
Jim was predeceased by his sister Margie Lee. He is survived by his brother Billie Gene “Sleepy”, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Fred Steppe, grandchildren, Jessica and Ben, and great-grandchildren, Reagan and Henley.
Jim will be honored in a celebration of life on September 14, 2021 at 1:30 PM at Earnest Cemetery near Tinsman. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce. To sign the online register visit
