James Thurmon Hampton, 83, of Fordyce died Saturday May 5, 2007 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Born November 5, 1923 at Calvin, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late Emmett Verden and Bertha Geyer Hampton. Mr. Hampton was a retired Roadmaster for the Rock Island Railroad, a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Fordyce. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ratha Gale Sanders; sister, Anna Jean Griffith; three brothers, Merle, Howard and Leo Hampton; and one granddaughter, Leslie Puterbaugh. Survivors include his wife, Juanita "Jo" Hampton of Fordyce; son Danny Ables and wife Venita of Fordyce; two daughters, Paula Rae Van Winkle and husband David of Fordyce, Celesta Kay and Kermit Puterbaugh of Kingsland; brother, Sonny "Roland" Hampton of Riverside, CA; sister, Violet Jackson of Walter, OK; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 8, at the First Assembly of God Church in Fordyce with Rev. B.L.
