James Thurmon Hampton

James Thurmon Hampton, 83, of Fordyce died Saturday May 5, 2007 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. Born November 5, 1923 at Calvin, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late Emmett Verden and Bertha Geyer Hampton. Mr. Hampton was a retired Roadmaster for the Rock Island Railroad, a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Fordyce. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ratha Gale Sanders; sister, Anna Jean Griffith; three brothers, Merle, Howard and Leo Hampton; and one granddaughter, Leslie Puterbaugh. Survivors include his wife, Juanita "Jo" Hampton of Fordyce; son Danny Ables and wife Venita of Fordyce; two daughters, Paula Rae Van Winkle and husband David of Fordyce, Celesta Kay and Kermit Puterbaugh of Kingsland; brother, Sonny "Roland" Hampton of Riverside, CA; sister, Violet Jackson of Walter, OK; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 8, at the First Assembly of God Church in Fordyce with Rev. B.L. Blann officiating. Burial will follow in Kingsland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church in Fordyce. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
