James E. Glass, Jr.

Lt. Col (Ret) James "Jim" E. Glass, Jr. age 73 of Fordyce passed away January 11, 2017. Born August 12, 1943 in Hot Springs Arkansas to the late James E., Sr. and Ida Handlin Glass. Jim graduated from Fordyce High School in 1961 and then attended The University of Arkansas at Monticello, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and the University of Southern Mississippi. He also was a graduate of Biblical Studies from Liberty University. He was a member of The Victory Church in Camden AR. He had a long career as a registered investment and securities representative for A.L. Williams. Jim was a former Worthy Grand Patron of The Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association.

Jim joined the Arkansas Army National Guard in 1963, and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1967 and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel serving over 28 years in various duty assignments within the Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi National Guard.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years Mary R Glass; three sons, James "Tony" Glass, of Memphis TN, David Glass of Benton KY, and Al Mays (Brittany) of Jonesboro AR; three daughters, Tami Fernandes (David) of Chino CA, Mary Sue Hopson (Floyd) of Hazen AR and Angie of Little Rock AR; three stepsons, John Stewart "Mickey" (Kelly) of Vilonia AR, Kris Stewart (Delma) of Hope AR and Allen Stewart (Allison) of North Little Rock AR; sister Mary Margaret Gordon and her husband Ron of Grand Bay, AL; two nephews, Andy Popple (Pam) of Pace FL, and Jimmy Popple (Sheila) of Mobile AL; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of other friends and family.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel.
