James Leonard Boney

James Leonard Boney, 68, of New Edinburg, passed away Wednesday March 11, 2010, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Mr. Boney was born in New Edinburg on January 8, 1942, & resided there until his death. He was a Methodist. He was educated in the New Edinburg Schools, worked many jobs over the decades and was retired from Alcatel and Robbins Flooring.

Mr. Boney was also a noted local historian specializing in Arkansas Civil War history. He was known for his extensive collection of relics from the war and was sought for his knowledge of local battlefields. He was also an avid gardener who cheerfully shared his crops with his neighbors.

Mr. Boney was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Cara Boney, his wife Mary Ethel Boney, his sister, Virginia McCallister, and his brother Charles Ray Boney. He is survived by his brother Robert Boney of Fordyce, his sister Louise Ortega of Amarillo, TX, his brother Eugene Boney of Madison, AL, his sister-in-law Jessie Noble of Little Rock, his son, James C. Boney of New Edinburg, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday March 14, 2010 at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in New Edinburg Cemetery, with the Rev. John Kidwell officiating.
