Ira Monroe Rhoades, 80, of Carthage died November 20, 2019, at Arkansas Heart Hospital. He was born July 5, 1939, in New London, Ohio. He served 23 years in the Navy and 5 duties in Vietnam while in the military he served on the recovery detail for Apollo 16, 17 and Skylab 1. He was involved in ENIWETAK clean-up project, his final duty station was as a LCU craftmaster, ACU-1 in Coronado, California, after serving his country he worked for Jack Harper Construction. He is preceded in death by his parents Leroy Franklin Rhoades Sr. and Violet Juanita Felver Porath; step-father, Leonard G. Porath and one brother Leroy Rhoades Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jeanette Rhoades of Carthage, Arkansas; one daughter, Athena Lynn Rhoades and husband Calvin Harris of Texas; two granddaughters, Amanda Laura Evans and husband Jacob Evans of Arkansas and Amelia Leigh King of Texas; one grandson, Dustin James King of Arkansas; two great-granddaughters, Artemis Loren Evans and Laura Leigh Evans both of Arkansas.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 24 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, Arkansas. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday November 25, 2019 at Garner Cemetery near Fordyce, Arkansas with Rev. Stan Hobson officiating..
