Homer Dean Barnes

Homer Dean “Deaner” Barnes, 92 of Fordyce, AR, passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 21, 1931 in Kingsland, AR to William Bart Barnes and Ruth Dean Summers Barnes.
Homer Dean graduated from Fordyce High School in 1950 and then went on to serve in the US Army in Germany for 18 months. When he returned he continued sawmilling with his dad and brothers. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Barbara L Wells.
The couple remained in Cooterneck Community for their entire 54 years of marriage. They were both lifelong members of Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for 50+ years.
Deaner spent his entire life working in sawmills. He was a sawyer and millwright without the millwright title. He spent most of those years employed by Barnes Lumber Company and Fordyce Picture Frame.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Homer Dean was preceded in death by his brothers Doyle Bart Barnes and his wife, Evon; William Thomas Barnes and his wife Clarice; brother-in-law, Hal Morgan; and his in-laws, Coyle Daniel and Vera Abigail Rogers Wells.
He is survived by his children: Donna Barbara Barnes Hart, of Fordyce and Travis Dean (Tracey) Barnes and wife, Lisa of Gosnell, AR; four grandchildren: Jennifer Nutt Pierce (Keith), Halle Nutt Ramos (Brian), Kayla Barnes Woessner (Alan), and Jonathan Dean Barnes (Shelby) and 8 great grandchildren: Karson Pierce, Parker Ramos, Landon Pierce, Addison Pierce, Caroline Raney, Harper Raney, Atlas Woessner, and Brielle Woessner; his sister, Christine Barnes Morgan; and brother and sister in law, Travis Wells (Carolyn); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Baptist Church, OCMC Hospice or Barnes Cemetery. Graveside services will be 10:00 am Monday at Barnes Cemetery near Fordyce with Rev.
