Herman Allen Nutt, affectionally known to his friends and family as Allen or “Bigun” passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024 at CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, AR surrounded by his family.
Allen attended Sparkman High School and worked for International Paper in Camden, AR for 15 years. When the Camden mill closed, he continued his career at International Paper in Pine Bluff, AR before retiring in 2010.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, part-time deputy Sheriff for 4 years, served as a severe weather spotter, was an Amateur Radio Operator and elected to two terms as Owen Township Constable.
Allen never met a stranger and was truly a friend’s-friend to folks that were close to him. No matter what you needed at any hour of the day or night, Allen would drop what he was doing to help, wearing his signature Big Smith overalls.
He never married or had children but adored his nieces and nephew. He was extremely proud of the young man and women they have become.
One of Allen’s greatest passions was always his truck, which he enjoyed riding and visiting with his friends. You could always count on it being immaculately cared for and having a loud exhaust.
Allen was preceded in death by his father James Herman Nutt (2019), grandparents George and Wilma Selph, and Floyd and Marie Nutt.
He is survived by his mother Margie (Selph) Nutt, sisters Amanda (David) Fenocchi of Arkadelphia, AR and Debra (Christopher) Wewers of Fairfield Bay, AR, and brother Joel (Melody) Hollingsworth of Hot Springs, AR.
In addition, Allen is survived by five nieces and one nephew, Ashley Wewers of Jonesboro, AR, Stephen Wewers of Fort Smith, AR, Hannah and Olivia Fenocchi of Arkadelphia, AR, and Sydney and Josie Hollingsworth of Hot Springs, AR.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce, AR.
A celebration of Allen’s life will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 10:00 am at New Hope Baptist Church in Sparkman, AR, with Brother Tommy Gerrish and Brother Dennis Burke officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
