Helen B. Mitchell Goggans, 102 of Fordyce, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 10, 2022 at St. John’s Place of Arkansas. She was born December 24, 1919 in Kingsland, Arkansas to Wallace E. Mitchell and Mary Jewel Graves Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fay Goggans, brothers Arnold Mitchell and Roy Mitchell, sisters Kathleen Ferguson, Gwen Douglass, Laverne Rotton, Polly Mitchell, and Wanda Newton.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Goggans Johnson (David), grandson Darren Johnson (Julie), great grandchildren Brice Johnson and Jessica Johnson, brother James Mitchell, sister Doris Lisemby, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the oldest member of Kingsland First Baptist Church where she served as church clerk and Sunday School teacher for many years. She wrote the History of Kingsland First Baptist Church which she presented at the 100th Anniversary celebration of the church.
She worked as a hairdresser for 40 years and loved sharing recipes and gardening tips with her clients. After retirement she gladly served on the Kingsland City Council. She also researched and wrote the History of Kingsland.
Her favorite hobbies were genealogy, gardening, cooking, reading, and arts and crafts projects. She enjoyed participating in the Cleveland County Extension Club and entering canned goods and arts and crafts projects at the County Fair where she won many blue ribbons.
In later years she was a member of the Chicot Trace Chapter of DAR and many of the members became good friends.
A visitation will be Monday, May 16th from 1PM until 2PM at Kingsland First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2PM at the church. Burial will be at Kingsland Cemetery.
