Harry Brooks Hiett, 83, passed away on August 3 after many years of struggling with dementia. Harry grew up in Gurdon with his twin brother Larry. It was here, in the woodlands and on the rivers of south Arkansas that the boys developed a life long love of hunting and fishing. His favorite place on earth would always be on the banks of the Ouachita River where his father built a cabin at Boiling Pot in the 1940s.
In 1968, Harry married Ruthie Ross of Fordyce. The two would enjoy over fifty years of marriage before Ruthie’s sudden passing in 2022. After marriage, they moved to Little Rock where Harry began his thirty-year employment with Arkansas Rehabilitation Services. Harry was also a member of the Army Reserves and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement, Harry and Ruthie enjoyed many years of traveling together. They traveled to all fifty states as well as several trips overseas.
Harry is survived by his son Ross and brother Larry as well as his two grandchildren Hannah and Harrison. There will be a private family memorial at a later date. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce. To sign the online register visit www.bentonfuneralhome.net.
