Geraldine O. Matthews

Geraldine O. Matthews, 82, of Fordyce died Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Dallas County Medical Center in Fordyce. She was born September 14, 1931 in Dallas County, Arkansas. After attending high school in Carthage, Arkansas she took home courses in dress designing and interior decorating from Chicago, IL. Geraldine lived outside of Arkansas for many years in such places as Maryland and Ohio. In those places she was always active in the United Methodist Church and with the children and their schools. Geraldine helped take care of the elderly in their homes and also in nursing homes in Ohio and in Arkansas. She was also a member of the local home extension club. She is preceded in death by her parents, James E. Overton and Lucy Amy Lawrence Overton; three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by two sons, Ben E. Matthews and wife Donna of Mount Vernon, WA, William C. Matthews and wife Diane of Fordyce; two daughters, Rebecca Sigal of Lorain, OH, Phyllis Kay Dailey and husband Jack of Virginia Beach, VA; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday at Tulip Methodist Church in Tulip with Rev. Shane Matthews officiating.
