George Harold Childs

George Harold Childs, 69, of Kingsland died Friday July 9, 2010 at St. John's Place in Fordyce. He was born May 31, 1941 in Kingsland, Arkansas. He was the son of the late George William and Lois Irene Cook Childs. He was a forester, farmer, cattleman and logging contractor. Above all, he was a beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, friend and mentor. He lived his live with faith, dedication, kindness, and selflessness. He believed in a strong work ethic and appreciated the friends that worked along with him. He was a dedicated member of Kingsland First United Methodist Church and touched the lives of so many. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and farming. He is survived by his wife, Melba Childs of Kingsland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey and Tootie Spencer of Kingsland, Keith and Connie Spencer of Kingsland; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Eddie Brown of Warren; one brother and sister-in-law, William "Bill" and Marie Childs of McKinney, TX; nine grandchildren, Matt and Tonya Spencer of Kingsland, Tiffany and Jerried Holland of Rison, Jessica, Jonathan, Julie, and Jamie Martin all of Kingsland, Lauren, Taylor, and Jonathan Spencer all of Kingsland, two great-grandchildren, Christopher "Bubba" Turner and Kiera Spencer both of Kingsland; and special friends, Eric Blasingame of Kingsland and the Norwood family of Traskwood. Visitation will be Sunday 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 10:00am Monday at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce with Rev. Mark Rivers, Rev. Paul Wooley and Rev. Jerry George officiating. Burial at Kingsland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kingsland First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
