Gary L. Avitts

Gary L. Avitts, 71 of Bearden, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at his home. He was born February 25, 1942 in Leachville, Arkansas to the late Cheslie E. and Nyline Johnson Avitts. He was retired from the United States Air Force and from General Dynamics in Camden. He was preceded in death by his brother Gilbert Avitts.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Avitts of Bearden; two sons, Greg Avitts and wife Wanda of Hayti, MO and Garrett Avitts of Gosnell; two step-daughters, Angela Schanzlin and husband Wade of Locust Bayou and Tanya Clemons and husband Harry Jr. of Bearden; one brother, Stephen Avitts and wife Debbie of Springdale; one sister, Judy Walthall and husband Johnny of Fountain Hill; one granddaughter; and three step-grandchildren, Blake Sparkman of Kentucky, Brooke Smith of Colorado Springs, CO and Cody Sparkman of Bearden.
Visitation will be Thursday 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday at the Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Burial will be at Ladelle Cemetery near Monticello. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Arkansas Humane Society. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
