Elain Elmer Barnes

Elain Elmer Barnes, age 89, passed away in his sleep on Monday, September 13, 2021. He was born on February 13, 1932, to Carl H. Barnes and Alice Raney Graf in Fordyce, Arkansas. Elain married, Martha Jane Barnes October 31, 1953.

Mr. Barnes leaves behind a significant legacy with his family and community. He was the principal founder of Candy Cane Lane in Corpus Christi, Tx. He graduated from Texas Tech University, Lubbock Texas earning a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1955. He was a Korean War Era veteran and eventually went into Civil Services at Corpus Christi Army Depot where he served as manager over engineering and safety for over 35 years, significantly contributing to the depot’s emerging operations at the time. He was a strong supporter of women’s rights in the workplace and helped to support and guide many young engineers to new opportunities. He was Scoutmaster for over 30 years to Troop 232 where he was a significant impact to many young people who went through the program. During his tenure over 100 young men earned the rank of Eagle scout and hundreds more benefited from his example and leadership. He was an active member of the South Side Rotary Club, his church, and many other community organizations.

He was a loving and caring Husband and Father, devoted to his family. He was active with his children, and grandchildren volunteering at school and sports activities from little league, high school band, and boy scouts. He lived by the creed, “Live, Love, Learn and Leave a Legacy.”

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, son, Marty Barnes; daughter, Lavesa Endres; brother, C.H. Barnes, Jr. (Mary).

He is survived by his son, Eric Barnes (wife Leticia) and four grandchildren, Derek Endres, Dustin Endres, Erica Barnes and Joshua Barnes ;son-in-law, David Endres; sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Lederman Parnell and several nieces and nephews and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 6301 Yorktown Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be Wednesday, September 29th at the Barnes Cemetery in Fordyce, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to Grace Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
