On Tuesday, April 27th, Doris Laverne Rhodes at the age of 93, passed on to her Heavenly home. Doris was born December 20, 1928 in Fordyce, Arkansas. She was a member of Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Rison, a devout Christian, and God-fearing woman. Most people knew her as their Avon lady and her love for cardinals. She worked many years as a beautician and eventually retired from the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Her integrity, work-ethic, sweet spirit, and her cooking skills made her into the incredible mother, grandmother, and friend that she was. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus and reunited with her loved ones that have passed on before her.
Doris was preceded in death by her father and mother, Solomon David Raney and Carrie Belle Finley Raney, as well as her siblings Solomon Raney Jr., Robert Raney, and Verna Poole.
Survivors include her children, Kathy Rogers of Hot Springs, Connie Roberts (Charles) of Rison, and Marty Rhodes (Robin) of Shelby, North Carolina. She also has one sister, Barbara Harris of Prairieville, Louisiana. She has six grandchildren Brandy Phillips, Heather Hill, Bill Rhodes, Lindsey Dow, Hannah Terry, and Natalie Thames. Doris was blessed with 12 great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by her special caregiver, Loretta Ball.
Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 30, 2022 at Tolson Cemetery near Fordyce. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce. To sign the online register visit
