Clyde James Pennington

Clyde James Pennington, 93, of Holly Springs, died Wednesday August 24, 2011. Mr. Pennington was born in Jacinto, AR on November 24, 1917 to the late George Washington & Annie Mae Cathey Pennington. He was a retired truck driver for Arkansas Best Freight where he worked for 21 years. Mr. Pennington honorably & faithfully served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded two Bronze Star Medals for Heroism. He was also a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Alyce Rae Sorrells Pennington of Holly Springs, AR; a son, Richard Alan Pennington & his wife Jeannie Renee Williams Pennington of Holly Springs, AR; a brother, Thomas Watson Pennington of Holly Springs, AR; a sister, Georgia Mae Pennington Ray of Bearden, AR; seven grandchildren, numerous great & great great grandchildren, & a host of family & friends. Mr. Pennington was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Rae Pennington Shelby, two brothers, John Wesley & Herbert Rhine Pennington, & a sister, Mary Ellen Pennington Belt.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Saturday August 27, 2011 at the New Holly Springs Cemetery, with Brother David Dillard officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home in Bearden. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
