Clara Greene Stringfellow Manuel, 92, of Hampton, passed away on October 19, 2010. Born on March 5, 1918, in Rison, she was the daughter of the late James T. Greene, Sr. and Vida Stover Greene.
Upon graduating from Draughon's School of Business in Little Rock, Clara began her business career at Lion Oil Company in El Dorado, where she spent many years. Later she was instrumental in helping to organize the first Calhoun County Health Office as Office Manager and with extensive training became the first X-Ray Technician for the Calhoun County Health Department. After retiring from the Hampton Post Office with over 38 years of service as Rural Mail Carrier, she loved to travel and to spend time at her camp on Champagnolle Creek and at her condo in Fairfield Bay.
Clara was a life-time member of Hampton First United Methodist Church having been one of the first members of the church and served different roles over the years, active member in NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees) at Fordyce, a member of Barnett Chapter No. 451, Order of the Eastern Star, former Worthy Matron and Charter Member of Southern Star Chapter No. 607, Order of the Eastern Star holding various offices on the local and state levels. Clara was instrumental in organizing the first Band Parents Club at Hampton High School and kept a leading officer role until her kids graduated. She was 'Honorary Mimi' of Girl Scout Troop 294 during the 1980's and 1990's where she was recognized as having helped the scouts win a national award. Clara took a very active role in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was not uncommon to see Clara picking up her grandchildren after school was out, taking them to their piano classes in Fordyce and dance classes in El Dorado. She took great pride in never missing any of their dance and piano recitals. She loved the Razorback football games and Mississippi State Bulldog football games. She hardly missed a Little Rock Razorback football game while she was able to drive herself. She was her oldest granddaughter, Suzanne Reddin-Parker's, greatest critic when it came to being in Miss Arkansas and Miss MSU.
Clara Kathleen leaves behind a three-generation 'name legacy' to her daughter, Sylvia Kathleen, granddaughter Suzanne Kathleen and great-granddaughter Autumn Kathleen.
