Charles E. Kauffman, Sr, 92 of Fordyce, died Monday, May 28, 2018 at his home. He was born December 31, 1925 in Fordyce to the late James Henderson Kauffman and Martha Lucinda Burford Kauffman. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ruth Evelyn Morgan Kauffman, his son Kelley Morgan Kauffman, and his brother James Richard Kauffman.
He was born off of Moro Street on the road that was part of College Street before the Rock Island came to town, behind what was the Corner Café and Lee's Gulf. The times he did not live in Fordyce was a little over two years during his service in World War II and for six years at ASTC (UCA) and Washington United Dental School in St. Louis. He graduated in 1943 but did not attend spring of his senior year as he was off at war. His mother picked up his diploma. He was a member of the Fordyce High School Band and played Redbug football.
In 1949 he married Ruth Evelyn Morgan and in 1952 moved back to Fordyce after choosing it over numerous south Arkansas towns. He practiced dentistry for 48 years and four of his five children were involved in the dental field.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Fordyce, a member of the Rotary Club since 1952 serving as President and a Paul Harris Fellow, served on the draft board for 20 years, was Chamber of Commerce president during the 1960's, was a charter member of the Fordyce Scholarship Association, a National Honor Society member, and president of the Fordyce Country Club in the 1960's and the 1980's. He had six holes-in-one; the last being five years ago at the age of 87.
He is survived by his four children: Charles "Chuck" Kauffman, Jr of Fordyce, Kristy Kauffman of Arkadelphia, Tim (Betty Eckhart) Kauffman of Arkadelphia, and Luke (Christy) Kauffman of Hot Springs; his brother Paul Ward Kauffman of Houston, Texas; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
