On January 2, 2024, Catherine Ann Moseley was called home to her Heavenly Father at the age of 86. Born in Fordyce, she was a model of faith, love, and family whose wisdom and compassion touched everyone around her.
Born on October 1, 1937, Catherine grew to be a matriarch of the family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her nurturing spirit made every house she entered feel like home. Known by many titles, RN, master hunter (multiple triple trophy honoree), Mrs. Chief, fisherwoman, business partner, head chef, mother to all, and prayer warrior—she was just as comfortable laughing on the river as she was worshiping in church. She and Roy Wayne lived a life of adventure, integrity, unwavering love, and a profound commitment to God and their family. Catherine so loved God’s Word and was deeply dedicated to sharing the love of Christ to anyone who would listen. If someone needed prayer, she prayed right then and there, whether in church, at home, or in the Wal-Mart parking lot. She was a woman of deep, abiding prayer. She believed, as do we, the prayer of a righteous woman availed much.
Catherine’s unwavering faith in God was the cornerstone of her time on earth, and this same faith gives those who survive her strength and solace of meeting again in The Father’s House. Those who wait to see her again are her husband of sixty-five years, Roy Wayne Moseley; her sister, Mary Ruth Glass; sister-in-law Charlotte Rape; three daughters, Judy Smith (Paul), Mary Evelyn Frey (Michael), and Nancy Turner (Kirk); her seven grandchildren, Casey Sellers (Jared), Nathan Smith (Megan), Cynthia Eagle, Jonathan Eagle (Jalisa), William Frey (Hannah), Zach Turner (Taylor), and Josh Turner; and her eight precious great-grandchildren, Cyan Frey, Parker and Connor Sellers, Cameron and Olivia Smith, Azalea Eagle, and Amelia and Desmond Frey.
While not related by blood, Catherine and her family want to recognize and thank Ruthie Burnette and Renea Talley, who selflessly served as Catherine’s caregivers at the end of her life here on earth. They loved her so well and she and her family love them as their own. The family would also like to thank OCMC Hospice staff for their tender loving care.
Catherine’s legacy extends beyond this family into the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Beech Grove Missionary Baptist Church. A Celebration of Catherine’s life and legacy will begin at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, also at Beech Grove Church. Following the Celebration of Life, Catherine will be interred at Oakland Cemetery.
As we mourn her passing, we find comfort that Catherine, a good and faithful servant, is finding rest in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She is now walking by sight, not by faith. Her deep love of Jesus and the love she shared will continue to inspire us for generations to come.
