Billy Warner Steelman

October 15, 1941 — January 7, 2018

Billy Warner Steelman, age 76 of Benton, formerly of Princeton, passed away peacefully at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock, Arkansas on Sunday, January 7, 2018 surrounded by his siblings. He was born to Harmon Toney and Kathryn Beatrice Brown Steelman on October 15, 1941 in Hamburg, Arkansas at the family home.
He was a member of Jacinto Baptist Church. He was a 1959 graduate of Princeton High School located in Dallas County Arkansas. He followed in his father's footsteps as a highway construction worker and continued to be a contract heavy equipment operator. Over the years he worked on countless road projects for Dallas County and constructed many ponds all over southern Arkansas. He and his wife enjoyed the outdoors and being with their family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Beatrice Brown Steelman; infant daughter, Carolyn Regina Steelman; infant brother, Louis; brother-in-law, Robert "Sid" Taylor; and step-son, Jeff Banks.
He is survived by his wife, Garlene Bettis Steelman of Benton; two daughters, Susie Launius of Camden and Sheryl Qualls of Hot Springs; step daughter, Renee (Joshua) Blockburger of Benton; granddaughter, Brittni Spears and three great grandchildren of Hot Springs; step grandson, Matt Scott of Benton; one brother, Charles (JoAnn) Steelman of Holly Springs; three sisters, Wanda Taylor of Camden, Linda (Jim) Wolfe of Camden, and Kathy (Harry) Russell of Harmony Grove; and a host of loving nephews, nieces, and grand nephews and nieces.
Honorary pallbearers are Jim Wolfe, Harry Russell, Kenneth Steelman, Jimmy Jones, James Womack, Troy "Gibbo" Walsh, John "Do-I" Owens, Dan L. Womack, and Bobby Jim Pennington. Pallbearers are Tony McMoran, Scott Sweat, Jerry Holland, Jonathan Steelman, Tony Taylor, Roger Taylor, Adam Taylor, Mark Smith, Josh Schimberg, Chris Willard, Matt Scott, and Phil Scott.
Visitation will be Wednesday January 10, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday at Benton Funeral Home with Brother Paul Martin and Brother John Steelman officiating. Interment will follow at Benton Cemetery at Jacinto.
