Beryl Louis Butler, age 63, of Sparkman was born April 3, 1960 and passed away July 3, 2023. He was the youngest son of James and Vada Butler. Beryl is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Hubert McAteer; and sister-in-law, Freida from Columbus, OH; brother, Tommy Butler of Sparkman, and also his wife Cindy, whom he met in Tennessee and shared life with until her death in March 2013. He missed Cindy Badly and spoke of her often.
He is survived by his brothers, Kenneth Butler (Grace) of Camden, Jimmy Butler (Judy) of Joan, Roy Butler (Cathy) of Sparkman, sisters, Esther Glasscock (Glenn) of Harmony Grove and Martha Shaddock-Cannon (Rickey) of Sparkman; Hubert’s family in Ohio, ten nieces and nephews; one very special nephew Scotty Butler, who was not only a friend, but caregiver and handled his affairs the past few years as Beryl’s health declined. Beryl had many talents and skills. He worked several years as a welder and metal cutter. After returning to Arkansas with Cindy he built his little house on the homestead. He planted a huge garden which he and Cindy put up and canned. He had hogs for a while too, till one day they got out and in to the garden. That’s when Cindy took the gun and shot them all. He never had hogs again!
Beryl followed in his Daddy’s footsteps by running a Motor Patrol (road grader) working for Dallas County. He did his best to keep working as long as his health allowed him to. After he could no longer work, he still would ride the back roads, checking on things and would report to the Judge. Even after he wasn’t able to work a garden, he and Martha had a huge pea patch for two seasons, the second even bigger than the first. Believe me, it was a struggle for them to get it all done. There were lots of memories made and old memories shared while tilling, planting, and picking. Tempers flared now and then too, but that’s how Beryl and Martha did things. Beryl was a good cook too. He had his own secret recipe for BBQ sauce. He made a batch just the other day to give to Russ. He also made the best dumplings (this side of Mama’s) and added his own twist of flavorings, creole and garlic seasoning. He put it in everything!
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Thursday July 6, 2023 at Sardis Cemetery. Graveside services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Cemetery.
