Benjamin Harlan "Poncho" Welch, 69 of Hampton died Saturday September 5, 2009 at his home. Born November 21, 1939 in Murray County, GA, he was a son of the late Benjamin Harlan Welch, Sr. and Annie Jo Watts Dunn. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Lee Welch. He is survived by his wife, Joann Welch of Hampton; five sons, Michael and Vickie Welch of Bearden, Timothy and Vickie Welch of Chatsworth, GA, James and Kathy Welch of Camden, Curtis and Brandy Welch of Hampton, Jim and Nikki Welch of Hampton; five daughters, Sandra West of Cabot, Mary Lynn Earnest of Hampton, Marilyn and Tony Moser of Hampton, Frankie Chavers of El Dorado, Jackie Welch of North Little Rock; one brother, Frank and Wanda Welch of Hampton; one sister, Betty Jo Roberts of Ringland, OK; two half brothers, Billy Goforth of Dalton, GA and David Welch of Ellijay, GA; three half sisters; thirty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was loved by many friends and relatives. Visitation Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Hampton Missionary Baptist Church with Revs. Rickey Smith and Mike Nutt officiating. Burial will follow at Moore's Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons and son-in-law. His grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Arrangements by Benton Funeral Home of Hampton.
