Anna Elizabeth "Beth" Land

April 30, 1927 — January 3, 2020

Anna Elizabeth (Beth) Gordon Greene Land, age 92, died January 3, 2020 at Dallas County Medical Center in Fordyce. She was born in Eutaw, Alabama on April 30, 1927. Married Johnny Odwin Greene on December 23, 1946. Married Carey James Land on February 4, 1997. She loved: The color purple. Church, choir, singing – just music in general. Going to Ben Few Methodist Campgrounds. Her daylilies. Any and all babies.


She was employed by Selective Services from 1945-1946, until in October the local unit was reduced to only one person. Employed at Dallas County Library. Dallas County Health Unit. Fordyce High School. Then at Dallas County Health Unit again in 1975 and was promoted to Records and Clerical Supervisor for the Arkansas Department of Health in 1980. She retired in July 1987. Opened the Spinning Wheel on August 1, 1987. She was a lifelong member of the Fordyce First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Arkansas Public Health Association, Public Employees Retirement System, Arkansas Teachers Retirement System, American Hemerocalis Society, and Arkansas Daylilly Association. She attended the Walk to Emmaus in 1996.


She was preceded in death by: Her parents Fredrick Arlington Gordon, Emma Leona Smith Gordon; Brothers Frederick Lavert Gordon, Frederick Arlington Gordon; Sisters Emma Louise Gordon Mays Douthit, Jennie Ruth Gordon Harkey, Mable Marie Gordon Hardin; husbands Johnny Odwin Greene and Carey James Land.


She was survived by: Son Gordon Greene of Fordyce; Daughters Gayle Owen (Paul) Winkle of Fordyce, Gwynne Workman (Kenneth) of Fordyce, and Genna Lou Kegley of Hot Springs; grandchildren Erick Owen, Jason Owen (Wendy), Christopher Workman (Leigha), Daniel Workman (Jennifer), Sarah Poole Mitchell, and Douglas Kegley III; and 4 great grandchildren; nieces Ann Harkey Frischman Garner Costello, Anna Marie Hardin Woodell, and Dr. Lisa Hardin-Crosby.


Memorials to the Fordyce First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Sunday 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Benton Funeral Home in Fordyce. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Monday at Oakland Cemetery in Fordyce with Rev. Phil Smith officiating. To sign the online register visit www.bentonfuneralhome.net .
