Alvin Murel Wallace, age 90 of Fordyce, Arkansas, died Saturday, January 3rd at his home in Fordyce. Born May 2, 1935 in Hampton, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Hallie Miller Wallace and Annie Laura Pierce Wallace. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church for 75 years.
Murel attended Fordyce Schools, graduating in 1954. After high school, Murel worked at Fordyce Lumber Company. He was a member of the Fordyce Police Department where he rose to the rank of Chief of Police. He later worked at Phelps Dodge Corporation, General Dynamics Corporation, and the Dallas County Jail where he retired in 2015. He also served in the Army National Guard for nine years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Rushing Wallace of Fordyce, his son, Jerry Lynn (Carrie) Wallace of Ennis, Texas, his daughter, Kimberly (Larry) Doris of Sterlington, Louisiana, his sister, Brenda Kay (Rusty) Burks of Camden, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bobbie Gene Wallace, his sisters, Margie Faye Wallace Langford and Jessie Earl Wallace O’Dell.
A visitation will be Thursday from 1PM until 2PM at the Benton Funeral Home Chapel in Fordyce. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2PM with Rev. Roger Copeland and Rev.
