George Donald Nelson

January 22, 1951 - February 20, 2022

George Donald (Don) Nelson, 71, of White Hall, AR went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 20th, 2022. He was born on January 22, 1951, in Thornton, AR to the late Mary L. Harper Gavin. Don was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents who reared him, George Harper and Mary E Jacobs Harper. Don was survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Gale Parrish Nelson; Son, Bradley Nelson of Rison, AR; Daughter Kristi Nelson of White Hall, AR; Daughter Danielle Brodnax of Redfield, AR; Son, Jeff Nelson of White Hall, AR; and grandchildren Chris Smith, Jayanna Smith, Bentley Hopper, Kaleb Brodnax, Saige Brodnax, Erin Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Jeffrey Nelson, and Ryann Nelson. Don received his education in Fordyce, AR where he was a 1968 graduate of Fordyce High School with honors. He was a member of the football team, as well as a 6 year veteran of the Army National Guard from 1968 to 1974 with honors. Don retired from the Arkansas Department of Corrections where he was superintendent of overall construction projects. Don loved all sports and was a coach for almost 30 years in baseball, football, and basketball. During that time he coached his children and grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26th at 10 AM at Oakgrove Baptist Church 13112 Dollarway Rd, White Hall, AR with Brother John Smith and Brother Michael Hayslip officiating.
