Carrol Glynn Holmes, 75 of Fordyce passed away Wednesday June 17, 2020 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Born August 26, 1944 at Sparkman, he was the son of the late Henry Louis Holmes, Preston Cranford, and Lena Mae Hogue Cranford. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Paulette Holmes Gray and Peggy Cranford Bryant; special uncle, Eddy Hogue and many other aunts and uncles. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fordyce. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He owned and operated a convenience store, Carrol’s One Stop in Fordyce for thirteen years and worked as an officer for Little League Baseball to establish the fields on College Street. He coached his son’s teams through PeeWee League, Little League, Babe Ruth League and American Legion years. Carrol was the clock operator for Redbug football games for over 20 years and president of Redbug Booster Club for five years. He also served as president of Fordyce Lyons Club. Health issues forced life changes and he became a self-employed painter and then spent ten years as a jailer at Dallas County Detention Center before retirement. Carrol loved God, all his family, all kids, Redbugs, Razorbacks, Cardinals, Cowboys, fishing, and western movies. Carrol is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Holt Holmes of Fordyce; son, Tony Holmes and wife Kristy of Conway; daughter, Sonia Hazelwood and husband Mike of Conway; brother Don Cranford and wife Nancy of Fordyce; grandchildren, Alden Hazelwood, Jackson Terrell and Ryan Terrell; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2020 at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fordyce First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Benton Funeral Home of Fordyce.
