Bonnie Sue Colvert

May 2, 1942 — October 5, 2020

Bonnie Sue Colvert, age 78 of Little Rock, died Monday, October 5, 2020, at Avenir Memory Care in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born May 2, 1942 in Carthage, Arkansas to the late Jesse B. Crowder and Myrtice Harrison Crowder. Bonnie Sue Colvert was a passionate person filled with a love of learning.

Bonnie spent her childhood in Carthage and later moved to Thornton, Arkansas to finish her high school education. After high school, Bonnie began her pursuit of a higher education at Ouachita Baptist University. During a summer trip home to Thornton, Bonnie met and married Lundy Rae Colvert, a Naval Officer assigned to serve in Guam.

During their time together, Bonnie discovered a love for travel. This love for travel lead Bonnie to call many places home, including Guam; Point Loma, California; Rota, Spain; Monterey, California; Bonita, California; Belle Chasse, Louisiana; Lake Land, Tennessee; and of course, Little Rock, Arkansas.

While family and travel were the cornerstones of her life, Bonnie could never escape her internal need to finish her education. Bonnie graduated from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, Louisiana with a degree in Education. This degree in Education would allow her to follow her original passion: Teaching. Bonnie taught anywhere and everywhere her travels took her.

After settling in Little Rock, Arkansas, Bonnie began teaching at the Arkansas School for the Deaf, where she would teach for over thirty years. During this time, Bonnie earned a Masters Degree in Deaf Education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Bonnie’s life was filled with many joys including her love of teaching, travel, reading, and gardening. However, the love that was most apparent to all around her was the love she held for her family and her lovely dog, Bella.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jesse Crowder and Gary Crowder. She is survived by one son, Dr. Lundy Wade Colvert of Eureka Springs, and one daughter, Lisa Jenkins of Conway. Bonnie is also survived by one brother, Jerry Crowder of Jasper, Texas, one sister, Linda Lou Clemons who is married to Larkin, Jr. of Gilmer, Texas. Finally, Bonnie is also survived by three grandchildren, Dr. Mitchell Bruce Jenkins of Little Rock, Dr. Timothy Drake Jenkins of Fayetteville, and Tristan Rae Jenkins, PA-C of Little Rock.
